Size Guide

Understanding sizing for sewing patterns to help you choose the right fit.

Important: Pattern Sizing vs. Ready-to-Wear

Sewing pattern sizes are different from ready-to-wear clothing sizes. Always use your body measurements and refer to each designer's specific size chart rather than assuming your usual clothing size.

How to Take Your Measurements

Taking body measurements
1

Use a flexible measuring tape

Ensure it's not stretched or too loose

2

Wear fitted clothing or undergarments

Avoid bulky clothing for accurate measurements

3

Stand naturally

Don't suck in or push out

4

Ask for help if possible

Someone else can take more accurate measurements

Sizing Tips

  • Always check the specific size chart provided with each pattern
  • Choose your size based on the largest measurement if you're between sizes
  • Consider the ease (extra room) built into each pattern design
  • Different pattern companies may have slightly different sizing standards
  • When in doubt, make a muslin (test garment) first
